Stanley Kubrick

Stanley Kubrick was an American film director and producer who is generally considered one of the most innovative and influential filmmakers of his generation.

Filmography:
Fear and Desire (1953)
Killer's Kiss (1955)
The Killing (1956)
Paths of Glory (1957)
Spartacus (1960)
Lolita (1962)
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
Barry Lyndon (1975)
The Shining (1980)
Full Metal Jacket (1987)
Eyes Wide Shut (1999)

I’ve seen a few Kubrick films such as “Paths of Glory”, “The Shining” and “A Clockwork Orange” without realising he directed them. However after looking at this filmography I can see a connection between the films. Kubrick is one filmmaker who has expanded his filmography over four and a half decades, and created a consistent theme and style.

Kubrick was known as a very stylistic filmmaker. His use of music remains prominent, he used music to evoke feelings and create tension and confusion. The two most prominent examples of the power of music occur in “A Clockwork Orange”, and “2001: A Space Odyssey”.
Along with a distinctive style, Kubrick films tend to have some very definitive themes. One of the most prominent themes is the- always male- protagonist. In conventional filmmaking, the protagonist tends to be the good guy. In Kubrick’s films, however, the main characters tend not to be conventionally likeable. Throughout the film Kubrick tries to gain empathy for these miscreants of society. Two solid examples of this are Alex in “A Clockwork Orange” and William in “Eyes Wide Shut”.

Audience Profiling

The Four Cs
Cross-Cutural Consumer Characterists which catergorise people in terms of their personal aspirations.

Mainstreamers: Largest group, buy well recognised brands and mainstream texts. e.g. Cadburys, The Sun

Aspirers: Seeking improvement, defined by high status brand names. e.g. Gap, Gucci

Succeeders: Buy brands reinforcing control and power. e.g. Jaguar, Armani

Reformers: Idealists, buy brands that are environmentally supportive and healthy. e.g. Fair Trade, Bodyshop

Individual: Highly media literate, buys product image. e.g. 3, iPod

I would personally put myself into a different group depending on what particular product I am consuming. Mainly I would be a mainstreamer when shopping for clothing, or an aspirer in terms of gadgets like phones or MP3s.

Skinniest Models Are Banned From Catwalk

THE TIMES:

YAHOO NEWS:

This is the ongoing story of Madrid Fashion week banning models with a BMI (Body Mass Index) of under 18 from taking part in catwalk shows and a British minister calling for the same thing to happen in London Fashion Week. This may appear to be a fashion issue, but it is important throughout media too. It seems unfair that these women should be rejected from their chosen profession when they worked so hard to get to a weight that has previously been desirable in the fashion industry.
If these models can be banned from the fashion shows then this ban should encompass the whole of the media. This includes magazines and newspapers, otherwise it's pointless to reject these images in one area when they are still promoted throughout the fashion industry. It also isn't fair on the models, they risk their health to be thin enough, and now it's no longer acceptable. I know the fashion industry is fickle, but you can't change your weight as often as you change your handbag.
